Around 215 000 solar water heaters installed
About 215 000 solar water heater (SWH) systems have been installed nationally to age as part of the South African National SWH Strategy and Implementation Blueprint of 2009.
The strategy was developed to reduce electricity demand, check rising electricity costs to low- income residential households, accelerate water heating ceremony delivery and achieve renewable- energy targets.
This scheme includes State-owned power utility Eskom’s facilitation of the positioning of one-million SWHs in low-cost housing areas across the fatherland by 2014.
The SWH units are funded by an Eskom subsidy that constitutes about 90% of the expenditure, and about half of the systems are installed in combination with carbon credits from the Neat Development Mechanism (CDM), which funds the balance.
“A further 800 000 SWHs are still to be installed nationally by the end of 2014, but we are already seeing emphatic results,” says Eskom integrated ask for management senior

The solar water heater sell in South Africa has recorded a phenomenal growth of 2000% during the past 14 years expanding from fewer than 20 suppliers in 1997 to more than 400 suppliers by 2011, according to Frost & Sullivan. and more »
