Sky Harbor's solar panels to meet 51% of airport's needs

The solar panels are owned by SunPower Corp. of San Jose, which installed them recently at the airport's Rental Car Center niggardly 24th Street and Buckeye Road and on top of the two garages in the East Compactness Lot near Arizona 143.
Last March, the city and SunPower signed a squeeze for the panels, which were installed at SunPower's expense. They can produce 5.4 megawatts of energy, or enough to state look after 51 percent of the airport's energy needs.
