Wave-power buoy trials start off Scottish coast
Sea trials have begun off the north east of Scotland of a exclusive buoy that converts the energy of waves into enough electricity to come across the needs of 150 homes.
If it passes this test spot the company behind it plans to seek a customer firm for the commercial occurrence of the device.
The plan would be to deploy buoys in a series of arrays that would disclose enough power for thousands of houses.
Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), a leading US wave-spirit technology company, announced the start of ocean trials of the first of its new origination utility-scale PowerBuoy device, the PB150.
It is the largest and most influential wave-power device designed by OPT to date.
It is 135ft long, with a diameter of 36ft.
A marred PB150 is now under construction in the US for a project in Oregon, and the company is Byzantine in other planned projects in North America, Australia, Japan and Europe that would use the instrument.
The company has been developing wave power systems since 1996. They have survived zillions hurricane, tsunami and severe storm conditions.

Edinburgh-based Pelamis Wave Power has secured a sublet out from the Crown Estate to develop a wave farm off the island of Bernera on the Western Isles.
